What causes it

  • Grease poured or washed down with hot water, which hardens farther down the line
  • Food scraps and coffee grounds through the disposal
  • Soap scum combining with grease
  • Long horizontal runs common in cabins
  • Cold, uninsulated lines in crawl spaces where grease sets up fast

Signs to watch for

  • Water draining slowly or standing in one or both basins
  • Gurgling when the dishwasher drains
  • Bad odor from the drain
  • Water backing up into the other side of a double sink

What you can try first

Check whether only the kitchen is slow. If other fixtures are slow too, the problem is farther down the line. Try a plunger with the other basin and the dishwasher hose sealed. Skip chemical drain openers. They can damage pipes and make the work dangerous for whoever clears it next.

How we clear it

We clear the line with a cable machine sized for kitchen drains, reaching through the trap arm into the branch line where grease collects. For heavy grease, especially in restaurants, hydro jetting cleans the full diameter of the pipe.

Tip: wipe grease out with paper towels, then wash pans in cold water so grease stays solid and doesn't coat the pipes.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why does my kitchen sink keep clogging?

Usually grease building up in the branch line. Clearing just the trap leaves the buildup behind. A full cable or jetting job reaches it.

Should I use hot water to wash grease down?

No. Hot water carries grease farther before it cools and hardens. Wipe grease out first, then use cold water so it stays solid.

Do you clear restaurant kitchen drains?

Yes. We clear commercial and restaurant kitchen lines, floor sinks and floor drains.
